When the Internet first came to the continent of  African society, most people were  very pleased with it because it reduced stress of communication.
It served many people for chatting, sending mails and even business. As the time passed many ladies discovered that they could use the internet to find a chat friend or a life partner.Some girls have greatly benefited just by using the internet to find their dream marriages or relationhsips. Jean Claude made all travelling arrangements and the both of them flew to France on the 21 of March that same year.He even gave Axelle’s family the sum of 600.000 FCFA for their up keep. Not knowing that they were selling their daughter into séx slavery, the family happily bid the couple goodbye as they left for France.
The truth of the matter was that Jean Claude is a pimp who goes to Africa and picks up girls to come and work as séx slaves for him in France. Since Axelle did not know about this, she would wish she never used the internet in her life. As the couple arrived France, they lived in a town called Clermont Ferrand for about 9 months after which they moved to a new place called Lourdes. It is in this place that Axelle had the worst experience of her life.

A few days after their arrival to Lourdes, a man knocked on the door saying he wants to see Jean Claude. Little did Axelle know that, he would be her first client who had already paid into her husband’s bank account. When Axelle called her husband’s attention to the guest, she was shocked when her husband told her to do whatever the guest tells her to do.
A few days later after coming home from work, Jean Claude sits Axelle and laid down the rules and regulations of the job. He told her she has to pay back all the money he spent on her in Cameroon. He calculated the amount to be more than 3,000 euros and she will also be working for him for the next two years. Axelle who became speechless thought she was dreaming. It was  worse when Jean Claude collected her personal belongings and all her documents. She was also prohibited from making any calls to the outside world.
Every day she had male customers who would come for her service taking her from front and behind all the time. She was mandated to do whatever they wanted. They would not use any protection during intercourse. One day Jean Claude came home with a customer accompanied by a dog. The man whose name is Loiseau had deposited some money into Jean Claude’s account. Axelle who didn’t see this coming was pushed into the room and forced to have séx with the dog which she did. It is said that Jean Claude made more money when Axelle sleeps with an animal so these deals became the order of the day.
After her encounter with the dog, Jean Claude left with Mr Loiseau leaving Axelle alone in the house. After numerous trials, she broke down the door and ran into the street where she met a Cameroonian couple living in the town. They helped her to get to the Embassy where she narrated her ordeal. The Police was immediately dispatched to Jean Claude’s house where they found evidence linking him to kidnapping and other serious allegations. Jean Claude was immediately arrested and is waiting for judgement. Meanwhile Axelle flew back to Cameroon and was immediately taken to the hospital for further examinations and treatments.

Mrs Otiti Esegba

76-year-old grandmother has narrated her ordeal after escaping from kidnappers’ den, about five hours after she was abducted, Monday.
Mrs Otiti Esegba, mother of the Managing Director of Ben-Segba Technical Services Limited, an oil servicing firm in Ekpan, was abducted at 2a.m. by a five-man kidnap gang at Akperhe community in Olomu kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State and was taken away on a motorcycle to their den at Oviri Olomu.
Same day, a medical practitioner, Dr. Richard Kofi, a native of Okpare community, also in Olomu kingdom was seized as he was entering his clinic in Ughelli. He also escaped from his kidnappers.
Mrs. Esegba, whose pleas to the kidnappers to free her fell on deaf ears, said she began to pray that God should make the two kidnappers guarding her to fall asleep. God answered her prayers, according to her, and they fell asleep. That was when she ran.
She said the other three had left to go and abduct more victims, saying they needed more money.
“At about 2a.m., while I was asleep, I heard a deafening noise but before I knew it, two heavily armed men stormed into the house and seized me after pulling down my door.

“Three others, also armed, joined them and ransacked the house, took my jewelries, my clothes and money. They started beating and hitting me with guns.
“Thereafter, I was dragged onto one of the waiting motorcycles, popularly known as okada. One sat behind me and the three others took the other okada. The one seated behind me held my mouth and I was blind-folded,” Mrs Esegba said.
When she escaped, a fisherman took her in.
She said: “He took me to his home at a place I later found out to be Oviri-Olomu, after hearing my story.
“At his home I found out that he was married to my niece. They clothed me as I was almost unclad.”
“This man called my people at Akperhe at 6a.m. They came and alerted Oviri community leadership. That is my story,” she narrated.

Tragic period of Nollywood celebrities deaths continues. The beautiful actress named Janet Atayero Oluseye, who used to be one of the prominent faces of Yoruba genre of Nollywood, has passed away.

Janet, who got married just a year ago, to Olalekan Oluseye, died at the age of 32 on Wednesday 23th of October, 2013.
The member of Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioner (ANTP), Ibadan chapter was with the Ojopagogo movie caucus in Ibadan until her death.
She was said to have complained of pains on her foot and couldn’t walk with it for months and subsequently her condition deteriorated even though she was treated in the hospital and some spiritual measures.
However,Janet Atayero Oluseye didn’t survive and was buried in Lagos, the same day she died.

Following this pleasant discovery earlier in the day, Hueze Huesu, in his 50s, couldn’t wait to get home later that night. He felt like a school boy preparing for a first date. He was excited about exploring the world of séx with a ‘rubber.’

“Nobody had told me about condóms until I heard from some people that it prevents pregnancy and séxually transmitted diseases,” he said. However, his excitement was deflated when he tried to explore…
He wanted to enjoy his new discovery with one of his wives t night. He said, “For the first time, I tried to use it when I wanted to sleep with my wife but she bluntly refused. She said she was not a prostitute and queried why I wanted to use a condóm when we have been married for years and never used one.”
Since then, Huese, who has 10 children, has never tried to use a condóm with any of his two wives. “I have never believed in the use of condóms anyway. This has not stopped me from having séx regularly. The woman knows the sign when the man is about to release or reach climax. So she has already even enjoyed it more than the man before he withdraws,” noted Huese animatedly.
The use of condóms is strange to men in Makoko, a densely populated slum town in Lagos where majority live in wooden shacks built on water.
Like Huese, many Egun people in Makoko, as well as Oko-Agbon and Ago-Egun communities in Yaba Local Council Development Area, Lagos, do not like using condóms due to their long held traditional belief in the old practice of coitus interruptus, also known as the withdrawal or pull-out method during séxual intercourse.
For centuries, this has been used as a method of birth control worldwide.
The history is not lost on the Egun people whose forefathers migrated from neighbouring Francophone West African countries like Togo and Benin Republic, as well as from Badagry, Lagos. This age old practice has been transferred to the current generation, where most of the people speak their local Egun dialect and sometimes French. Their major occupations are fishing and farming. Only a few understand English and the residents, whose maj live in wooden shacks built on murky waters oozing with an unpleasant odour.
“The use of condóm means nothing for us here as Egun people. We don’t like using condóms because we know ourselves, both women and men; we don’t go outside or sleep around. It’s those people who go outside sleeping with different people that contact such diseases like HIV,” said Lowato Luke, one of the traditional chiefs in the area.
Luke, who has two wives and 12 children, gleefully boasted that he had mastered the withdrawal method and understands his wives’ ovulation cycles. “I know the particular times to have séx with my wives, even if they are breastfeeding and I want to have séx with them, I know how to do it to prevent another pregnancy,” he said. Like Huese, he also claimed that his wives enjoy the séx more than he does. “But if you use condóm, it won’t be that enjoyable. I have never used a condóm,” he noted.
It is the same case with Kirianko Goi, in his 40s. “I don’t believe in the use of condóm because I never heard that from my father. It’s not for me to say whether I will advise my children to use condóm or not. If the young boys and girls want to have séx, they won’t tell you. This generation is clearly different from that of my father and mine. But if I’m in a position to do so, I will advise them, it is my duty to advise them,” he said.
Goi’s nephews, two young men in their 20s, one married and the other unmarried, giggled intermittently during their uncle’s brief condóm talk. But they declined comments when asked if they use condóms during séx.
Many of the men who spoke to our correspondent in the community expressed their aversion to the use of condóms during séxual intercourse and were insistent that their women enjoyed it that way.
Twenty-five-year-old Bernadette Sato, who has two children, agreed. She does not like condóm. “We don’t like using condóm. But if we don’t want to get pregnant, we know how to do it by ourselves; it pays us more that way, because we don’t like using condóm. I was told in a hospital in Cotonou, Benin Republic, where I gave birth to my first child, that people who don’t want to get pregnant can use condóm. Sometimes, I use a family planning drug before and after séx with my husband to prevent pregnancy,” she said, noting that many of her friends also don’t like condóms, while some claimed it could bring about disease. “I don’t know the type of disease, but I just don’t like condóm during séx,” she added.
Pipi Olorunwa, who has been married for 12 years and has six children, gave an insight into the female perspective. She said: “Although there is no official report that says condóm is bad; personally, I don’t like it because God did not create it. Those who created it did so because of the level of immorality in the world today so that they can enjoy themselves. There are several methods to avoid pregnancy. A couple can have séx without the wife conceiving.
“I also don’t like the chemical and odour from condóm because I believe the chemicals used in preserving the condóm could cause problems and is harmful to the body. Although I didn’t get the information from a medical expert, but everybody does according to their belief. I don’t use any drug either to prevent pregnancy. I just do it the natural way with my husband.”
“We don’t use need it or any other contraceptive because we understand how to do child spacing,’’ noted the head of the traditional chiefs in the area, 55-year-old Mr. Francis Agoyon Alashe. When probed further, he gave a timeline of the spacing among some of his 14 children as proof. It showed a two or three-year gap among them. “My children are well spaced. Some of them, including the twins, were born in 1984, 1986 and 1989. I stopped having children in 2003,” he explained, adding that he still had séx with his wives during those period without childbirth because he had ‘planned it carefully with the withdrawal method.’
“Of course, the woman enjoys it. It’s a matter of agreement between the man and the woman. We don’t like using condóms as such because we want flesh to meet flesh. If a man is too anxious during séx, he will release on time, but if he can control his excitement, he can take longer minutes,” he explained.
According to Agoyon, the use of condóms could even have ‘negative effects.’ “We believe using condóm could bring disease on its own. This could happen when the sperm goes back into the manhood. We call it ‘foon’. Then, to urinate will be very difficult,” he said
However, a medical doctor, Dr. Kareem Jamiu, punctured holes in Agoyon’s statement. “That’s not true. It’s not medically possible. But there is what is called ‘retrograde ejaculation’, where the sperm goes backwards to the bladder instead of forward. Normally, when a man wants to release, the bladder neck closes so that the sperm can easily flow forward. But if the bladder neck muscles are weak or relaxed, then it means there is a problem. Some causes of retrograde ejaculations are complications from diabetes, a malfunctioning bladder sphincter, as well as some STDs. But in a normal male, the bladder neck is normally so tight and so the sperm cannot go back,” explained Jamiu, who once worked with the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières during their intervention programme in Makoko, Oddo and Badia communities in Lagos State.
The MSF team, comprised foreign doctors supported by Nigerian medical staff, worked in these areas for over two years and established a health centre, until they left in 2012.
Despite the lack of information, knowledge, and awareness about the consequences of unprotected séx, there is a general low rate of STDs and HIV/AIDS in the Makoko communities, noted Jamiu, who confirmed to our correspondent that the people in the communities really don’t like using condóms.
He said: “We tried talking with them but it was difficult getting the message across to them. When you tell them about it, they just laugh about it and say they will try.

“From our experience with them, their way of preventing pregnancy is coitus interruptus. Most of the males that had STDs patronised traditional healers, while the females sometime came for treatment, although the rate of STDs or HIV/AIDS was not as widespread as feared. I don’t think there was any difference between the rates in Makoko when compared with the general population or with people who live in different settings. Sometimes, there were 11 cases of HIV in a month, sometimes 12. The community also recorded low figures in malaria and cholera cases,” he explained.
“We have special herbs to cure STDs like gonorrhoea and other types of diseases,” said Huese. “It is an Egunsecret,” Agoyon replied when probed about it.
This surprising trend may be due to what is medically termed ‘herd immunity’, Jamiu noted. “When a group of people are exposed to something too frequently, they tend to develop a general immunity to it,” he explained.
According to Vaccines Today, an online publication, “Herd immunity is a form of immunity that occurs when the vaccination of a significant portion of a population (or herd) provides a measure of protection for individuals who have not developed immunity.”
“I think that’s what happened in Makoko. The rates of diseases were not really as bad as envisaged, Jamiu said.
Another medical doctor who worked with MSF, Dr. Valentina Edoro, echoed Jamiu’s words. “There were isolated cases of STDS, but not high. The number was not something that needed any special intervention. When the women came for family planning; we found out that they don’t discuss it with their husband. We needed to bring the men on board during discussions on family planning, but it came about much later when we were about rounding off the project,” she said. Edoro added that many of the men in Makoko said they didn’t enjoy séx with condóms because they believed it decreased the pleasure during séx.
However, she pointed out that the withdrawal method may not necessarily be effective in preventing pregnancies and STDs. “This is because the pre-ejaculation fluid from a man’s man-hood may contain sperm, which means that the man may still has enough sperm to make a woman pregnant,” she said, noting that the women were less conservative about family planning than the men.
“Surprisingly we also discovered that their children were healthy and they breastfed for longer time, malnutrition was not a problem. Yes, they had a lot of chest infections because of their environment and they smoke. But they were healthy, despite their environment. I was also surprised about the low rate of STDs because they don’t protect themselves with condóms. They don’t marry outside the community, I don’t know if that is a factor,” she noted.
Conservatism, illiteracy, lack of awareness, traditional beliefs, environmental factors, high risk séxual behaviour and poverty may be some reasons for the widespread practice of unsafe séx among people in the community. There is also a high rate of teenage pregnancy there.
Their claims asides, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered from some of the residents that, despite their marital status, a few of them still had séxual affairs outside the community.
“Today, girls are getting pregnant more and giving birth. Séx is more common in Makoko among the young boys and girls. They like it. All they know in this settlement is séx. You see young girls of 13, 14 years, who have had séx. And when they are brought to the elders, they would claim that they are husband and wife. We deliberated some cases last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We had cases of r*pe in the past but it is very rare. Nowadays, some of these young girls spend their mothers’ profits from her trade to get boys to have séx with them,” Agoyon said. Most times, a traditional marriage ceremony is quickly conducted between these young, consenting lovers. It doesn’t cost much to have one in Makoko, a traditional wedding ceremony could cost between N10,000 and N150,000, Agoyon said.
This developing trend may change the status quo in the community in terms of population growth and rates of STDS.
This is the more reason why, beyond the changing perspectives, Jamiu said people in communities such as Makoko needed more enlightenment about the use of contraceptives such as condóms, considering the social and economic effects such population increase in slums areas would have on the country.
According to recent World Bank statistics, Nigeria, with a population of over 160 million where majority live on less than $2 a day, has the seventh highest birth rate in the world. The report stated that Nigerian women give birth to an average of six children within their childbearing years.
“Their educational awareness and knowledge of contraceptives is very poor in Makoko. I can’t comment on how it works for them. But if the communities can be provided with standard education, it will help change their mentality and way of life, because you can’t dislodge them from there. That’s where they are comfortable to live in. It’s more of a rudimentary life. They have some brilliant children where during interaction with them, you know they can be better. Education is what they need,’’ he noted.
Although the older generation still holds strongly to the séxual practice of their forefathers, the younger generation of Egun people seem to be drifting away with the current of modern times, while in the murky waters surrounding their communities.
Remi Goka, in his 30s, who was evasive about his marital status, said he used condóms whenever he was with his girlfriends. Like he put it, he didn’t know if they had other séxual relationships outside. “But I go for tests regularly. I have many of my friends who use condóms,” he said.
His friends, whose ages ranged from 18 to 30; Hunkarin, Yomlomnun Monday, Keyebo Richard and Djisou Honsou, who had his name tattooed on his arm, all agreed. They all use condóms also. Goka agreed that séx among young people was now a common way of life in the community.
“Yes, there is a difference between my generation and the older one because we are more enlightened about the issues. We have a larger population now. It’s a thing of choice,’’ he noted.
With an increasing population, especially of women and children, poverty, poor living conditions, lack of education and basic infrastructure and services, the increasing rate of unprotected séx in Makoko communities is a worrying trend, especially as the general dislike for cóndoms hasn’t changed much with the younger generation.
“They live in a kind of cocoon. For them, it’s a way of life. The men go for fishing; the women go to the market and come back. From what I have observed, there are no special values being handed over. So, it goes on like a cycle. The young boys grow up to impregnate their women and it just goes on and on,”

A 35-year-old prophet, Favour Emmanuel, on Monday appeared before an Ojokoro Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, and charged with attempt to rápe his client.
Emmanuel, who resides in Adedokun Street, Baruwa, Ipaja, was arraigned on four-count charge of attempted rápe, undressing without consent, breach of peace and provocation.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clara Olagbayi, told the court that the offence was committed at the accused office in Baruwa Ipaja on Oct. 21.
Olagbayi said the complainant went to the prophet for prayer, but the accused assaulted her by undressing her and was about ráping her when she cried out for help.

She said it was the screaming of the complainant that attracted the neighbours, who then rescued her and reported the incidence to the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections, 134, 185, 188 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs A.0 Layinka, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.
She adjourned the case to Nov. 29, for mention.

Traders in Onitsha Main Market yesterday resisted the order by the state government to close the markets in order to welcome Mr. Willie Obiano, the embattled candidate of APGA now facing two court cases for double registration. The confusion which followed the event marred the proposed visit at 9am yesterday of the APGA candidate in company Chief Martins Joe-Martins Uzodike, his Campaign Manager who also doubles as the State Commissioner for Information, Tourism & Culture. The traders showed visible anger as they marched through the environment carrying placards.
   They were soon joined buy another contingent marching from Ose Okwodu with brooms and in no time bystanders a, youngsters and Okada riders joined them chanting songs in favor of the APC candidate in the election, Senator Chris Ngige.
   The arrival of the Governor Obi and Obiano did not deter the protesting traders. Rather the governor’s entourage was pelted with sachet water bags, prompting a quick retreat to Whitehouse office of the Onitsha Amalgamated Traders Association (OMATA), where the donation of N1m announced by the governor was shouted down with many booing his entourage. As at the time of filing this report, agents of the Governor Obi are wooing the traders individually through their leaders to come to Onitsha North stadium to be addressed, but the resistance appear.
   One of the traders explained: ‘ We received an order by the government saying that we should not do business today, of which (sic) we feel that it is not okay’ Mr. Andrew Agbapu, Fancy Line said ‘ Every time they will close our business without considering our gain’. Another trader in home appliance line, Mr. Fred Nebedum said;’ It is not by force to support a candidate. The worst is that he should come and say what he wants to do and other will also come. But it does not mean we will not do business for that?‘
   Mr. Phil Onyia, of Abada line, Williams Street was blunter ‘The truth is that the government is forcing an unpopular candidate; someone we do not want to spoil our business and what is why we have this problem. We want Ngige, although we do not say anybody else should not campaign, but they should stop playing with our stomach for politics.’ Onyian fumed.
  Governor Peter Obi was reported as saying that political parties will not be allowed to campaign in the markets, a policy sharply criticized by opposing political parties as unlawful. The latest development has therefore caught the other political parties by surprise. Luke Udeh, a chieftain of Labor party in Onitsha said ‘Obi can never excel on the path of keeping to his own rules. He is a bully‘. Chief Amaechi Obidike, of APC did not pick his calls. But Jude Nkputa of PDP said, since Gov obi has decided to campaign in the market everyone will now do so.

Criminals have tried a lot of different things in order to avoid being caught but an incident in which an alleged crook threw a parrot at an officer to prevent himself being captured could be a first.
Luis Santana, from Connecticut, USA, was so eager to escape the authorities he reportedly decided to use the squawking bird as a distraction when they were about to detain him.
When officers arrived on the scene after reports of an altercation, instead of surrendering, a shirtless Mr Santana apparently threw a stolen white parrot at an attending officer.
If that wasn’t enough, the bird was then said to have bit the policeman on the finger.
Justice was served in the end though after the shirtless parrot thrower was located at a house nearby.
He was duly arrested and has since been charged with several offences, including cruelty to animals and assaulting a police officer.
The parrot has reportedly been returned to its rightful owner.

It seems the anticipation for an iPhone got too much for one couple in China, who have been accused of selling their young daughter so they could afford to buy one of the desirable devices.
The Apple lovers apparently wanted one of the smartphones so much they decided to raise funds by auctioning off their child, state media reported.
The mother, who also reportedly bought expensive shoes with the money, now face charges of human trafficking along with her partner.
But the under-fire parents have denied their intent was to raise money to buy the luxury items, insisting instead that they wanted to give their third child a better start in life by allowing her to join a wealthier family through an online adoption.
One of the parents said: ‘Giving away the child was not for obtaining benefits, but giving the child better guarantees.’
The couple are believed to have been paid somewhere between $4,900 (£3000) and $8,200 (£5060) for the child.
This isn’t the first time someone has reportedly sold something dear to them in order to buy an Apple product.
Last year a teenager is said to have traded a kidney so he could afford to buy an iPhone and iPad.

According to a report by Vanguard the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday October 18th paraded a 40-year-old man, Adeyemi Stephen Akintolure (pictured above), a suspected fake medical doctor, who claimed to be a staff of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, with card No. 13541, identifying him as a surgeon and gynaecologist.

He said he is from Ondo State, studied Marketing at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, as a part-time student and graduated in 1997.

The fake medical doctor was said to have fraudulently obtained N500,000 from one Joy Umosekhaimhe of 2, Adesanya Close, Ifeko-Gbagada.

Akintolure, who said he uses the wife’s car as a mobile clinic, said the money in question was borrowed from Umosekhaimhe, adding “actually, it was not N500,000. It was N260,000 she lent me to use for my brother’s ailment.”
  According to Akintolure, “I have not treated more than 10 people. I just treat them for malaria and typhoid and I also give injections too because of my experience at Rivic Hospital at Akure.”

When asked how he got the identity card, he said he got it from a business centre and that the computer operator signed it for him.

He said that he charges between N3,000 and N4,000 per patient, adding that his wife was not aware of his trade.

Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ngozi Braide, said she received a petition at the area H Police Command Headquarters, Ogudu, on July 19, that one Adeyemi Stephen Akintolure obtained N500,000 from one Joy Umosekhaimhe.

Braide said that a letter was written to LUTH on July 23 to authenticate Akintolure claims of being a staff.
She said: “On October 10, LUTH replied that the suspect is not an employee of the hospital and was not issued the identity card.

“In view of the revelation, the suspect confessed that he is not a medical doctor, but has been practising for about four years, using his wife’s vehicle as a mobile clinic.”

She said his house and vehicle were searched and drugs, injections, syringes and laboratory coat were recovered.

5. Invite your friend or co-worker out for a cup of coffee or a drink after work.
6. Lend a hand when a friend or family member is painting or remodeling their home.
7. If you know your friend wants to get organized but is having a tough time starting, buy them a book on organizing, some containers and nice notebook.
8. Cook a meal so they don’t have to after a long day at work.
9. Frame one of their favorite pictures.
10. Share a plant or a plant clipping.
11. Pick up some groceries and drop them off on your way home.
12. Return a favor. If your neighbor always shovels your walk way or mows your grass get out there before him or her and do theirs for a change.
13. Watch your niece or nephew for an afternoon to give their parents some time off.
14. Make reservations at their favorite restaurant.

15. Make a candle light dinner at home for your spouse.
16. Give a hug. Yes it can be that simple.
17. Tell them what you think they are particularly great at.
18. Write notes to leave on a pillow, a computer keyboard, or in a lunch box.
19. Give a hand made gift. Winter is in full swing here, so how about a knitted scarf or mitts? Or a center piece for their table.
20. Make a special day just for them. Plan a day for them around what they enjoy. Go with them if it’s appropriate.

The NCAA held a press conference yesterday, Friday October 18, where it was stated that they are haunting for the person broke the news of the outrageous purchase of two bulletproof cars valued at N225 million for Oduah from Coscharis Motors.

The DG of NCAA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, said at a press conference which held at the ministries HQ in Abuja, that the FG was concerned about how the information got leaked to the public, saying that whoever leaked it committed a criminal offence. 

“I am not saying that this particular information should not be put in the public domain, but how it was obtained is the concern. If somebody breaks into an office and makes copies of official documents, then the break-in has become criminal. So we are in the process of trying to find the source of this leakage and I am very concerned about it because this information may look trivial but there are other information that we have that are confidential and it is only fair for us to respect the confidentiality of information. I am not saying that they broke into our office, but they obtained the information illegally.”

There are indications that Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has indicated his willingness to offset the N12m medical bill purportedly needed by veteran actor, Mr. Kayode Dosumu popularly known as Pa Kasumu for the treatment of his kidney and liver ailments.

A family source revealed that although the governor is presently in the United States, he has reportedly contacted the actor on his intention to foot the entire medical expenses. It would be recalled that the ailing thespian had added his voice to a media campaign by his colleagues, friends and family members, pleading with the public to help save his life by donating towards his treatment.

A bus carrying 51 people, including children, veered off a cliff in Peru Saturday, killing everyone aboard, an official said.

The passengers, who included many members of one family, were traveling to a celebration in the Santa Teresa district, said Juan Carlos Valverde, the under attorney general in the Peruvian province of La Convencion, where the crash happened.

An unspecified number of children were among those killed when the bus went off the 200-meter-high (656-foot-high) cliff, he said.

Officials earlier said 52 people were aboard but later revised the death toll to 51, saying a boy who was supposed to be on the trip never boarded the bus.

No further details were immediately available, he said.

A youth corps member died this morning in a fatal road accident that occurred at the Akwanga-Lafia road in Nasarawa State. The corper served in Karu local government in Nasarawa and was on his way to Lafia for the Batch C Passing Out Parade when he met his untimely death on the really bad road. The Kano State Task Force on Private Schools has closed down 69 schools for operating illegally in the state.

Alhaji Baba Umar, the chairman of the task force, made this known at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday.

 
"The 69 illegal schools are also operating under disturbing conditions and this is against the laws governing the establishment of schools in the state,’’ he said.
Umar said that any school, which failed to meet the required standard, would be closed down.
He said that the task force would henceforth close down dilapidated schools and schools without qualified teachers, adequate facilities as well as those that refused to pay tax.
Umar, however, said that the task force was not interested in closing down schools on the basis of their non-payment of tax.
He nonetheless warned any default in tax payment is "a serious offence which attracts a serious penalty".
Umar said that over 1,000 private schools had so far collected their revalidation forms for the 2013/2014 academic session.
"The essence of this exercise is to take stock of the actual private schools that are operating legally in the state," he said.
The chairman warned other schools to collect their revalidation forms before the end of October.
He, however, urged parents to ensure the prompt payment of school fees, describing the non-payment of school fees by parents "as the highest act of irresponsibility on their part".

Patients were left at the mercy of nurses at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital in Enugu on Wednesday as resident doctors embarked on a strike.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who monitored the strike in Enugu observed that some of the patients whose cases were severe had been moved out of the hospital by their relatives.
A nurse who pleaded anonymity told NAN that serious cases beyond their control had been referred to private clinics.
"In the maternity ward where I work, expectant mothers who were booked for caesarean sections have been discharged.
"The patients we have in the maternity ward at the moment are those who gave birth and those we are sure that they will give birth naturally.
"Some patients have discharged themselves without the consent of the hospital.
"I wonder why patients will pack their luggage and leave the hospital without informing the hospital authorities," she said.
Mrs Agatha Ugbodiegwu, who was delivered of a baby, told NAN that the nurses were trying their best in taking care of the patients.
She said the nurses were checking them accordingly as they used to do before the strike.
At the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Ituku/Ozalla, consultants attended to patients as the resident doctors joined the nationwide strike.
An official told NAN that the hospital did not discharge its patients as the consultants and other personnel were equal to the task.
